A self service storage unit is any property that has been designed and intended for the use of either leasing or renting out individual storage space for individuals who are in need of storage to have access to this property for the purpose of removing and storing personal property, such as furniture, electronics, or sporting equipment. Self-service units are usually rented out in the form of a warehouse or a building, but can also be used in residential areas with more than one unit. The property owner can either rent them out for a specific period of time (a month or year, for example) or allow their customers to store their items for free on their own property for a certain period of time, such as a year or longer. Most self-storage facilities provide access to the buildings via a security gate. However, there are some facilities that have their own security guards and gates.


If you are considering renting out a self-storage facility to store your items, it's important to ensure that you are choosing the right type of unit. Some self-service storage units are not able to store items that are hazardous or have high monetary value, such as automobiles. This is because they are designed to store personal belongings only. You should be aware that if you are using a self storage unit that has a high amount of dangerous items that the owner might not take kindly to your taking away their possessions. If this happens, you will be unable to rent out the facility again.

Before you begin renting out your self-service storage unit, make sure you know all the information concerning the facility including its size, how much space it has, and whether it is suitable for your needs. Don't be surprised if you are required to pay an upfront fee for access to these facilities. In some cases, the owner might ask you to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which is meant to protect both parties. Although there are a number of self-service storage facilities available, the one you choose should be able to meet your needs and provide you with the protection you need.
